Marie Curie Cancer Care employs more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, providing care to around 29,000 terminally ill patients in their home as well as in our nine hospices, along with support for their families.
We mainly care for people with cancer but we also care for people with other life limiting illnesses. Our services are always free of charge to patients and their families.
We also conduct palliative care research to find better ways of caring for terminally ill people and fund seven scientific teams investigating the causes of and treatments for cancer.
Marie Curie Cancer Care has been campaigning for more patients to be able to make the choice to be cared for and die at home. Almost 70 per cent of people would like to die at home if they had a terminal illness, with a sizeable minority opting for hospice care. However, more than 50 per cent of cancer deaths still occur in hospital, the place people say they would least like to be.
Our vision
At the end of life we want all patients with cancer to experience the best possible care, with the choice of being cared for in their own home.
Our values
At Marie Curie Cancer Care, we will:
• put patients first
• champion new ways to help cancer patients
• listen to our staff and volunteers
• share what we know about caring for cancer patients.
