How it works - FAQ & Help

Donating a prize

What type of prize can I donate?

You can donate anything that you think people will want to win. Prizes offered in the past range from luxury holidays and football season tickets to iPods and signed books. Please make sure that any prizes offered are in good condition and that you guarantee that people will be able to take up the prize if they win. If there are any circumstances where the prize offered is not available after the draw then you should be able to offer something to the same value including cash as agreed with the winner.

How do I decide on my fundraising target?

The amount of money you want to raise is largely up to you, as the money will be going to your chosen charity. A good guideline would be the monetary value of the item you are offering. So if you are offering a computer worth £300 then set your fundraising target at that. If your prize value is non-tangible then please use your judgement to set a value based on what you wish to raise.

How do I decide what figure I should set the ticket price at?

The ticket prices should be set at an amount that you realistically think someone would pay to be in with a chance of winning that prize. For example if your prize donation has a high value or is in some way unique then you can set a higher ticket price. If your prize is of a lower value then the ticket price also needs to reflect that. Remember that you need to sell enough tickets to be able to reach your fundraising target too, so don't set ticket prices too high so that no one buys them, or too low so that not enough people buy them before the draw deadline.

What should I include in my description?

Please describe your item in as much detail as possible. You are using the description to sell tickets to people so the description needs to ensure that people will be interested enough in the item to want to be in with a chance of winning it. Details to include are whether the item is new or used, how many people are eligible to take up the prize if it is an event, if there are any terms and conditions attached to someone taking up that prize. Please ensure that your description is accurate as Rogavi cannot be held responsible for any misleading information about the prizes offered.

What if my chosen charity is not in the drop-down menu?

Rogavi is currently working with a selected number of charities and those are what you see on the drop down list. If there is a charity you would like to support and you do not see it please contact us.

How many tickets can I buy in each tombola?

You can buy as many tickets as you like in each tombola and the more tickets you buy the more chance you have of winning. If you buy all the tickets in a tombola then you are guaranteed to win the prize offered.

How can I pay for my tickets?

We accept all major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, Solo, Delta, Switch and Visa Electron. When you use your card to buy a ticket we guarantee that it will be a secure transaction. Our website uses the strongest commercially available level of encryption 128-bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) verified with a Networksolutions SSL Certificate. This means that your transaction is secure and your information cannot be hi-jacked or redirected to anyone but Rogavi. Look for the padlock symbol in your browser as a sign of this security. For added security we use Verified by Visa and Mastercard security.

Are my ticket purchases eligible for Gift Aid?

Unfortunately, as with an offline charity fundraising event, any tickets purchased in the tombolas will not be eligible for Gift Aid. However, if you simply want to make a donation to a charity then you will be eligible for Gift Aid. Rogavi will collect all the information required for the charity to claim the tax back.

How will I know if I have won a prize?

Winners will be drawn as soon as the last ticket has been bought. All tickets will be entered into a draw overseen by an independent adjudicator and a winner will be chosen at random. Winners will be informed by email and online within 48 hours that they have been successful.

The game

How the game works

For each prize there are a fixed number of tickets available at a set cost. You can purchase as many tickets as you like for each draw up to the maximum available. When all the tickets have been purchased they will be entered into a draw overseen by an independent adjudicator and a winning ticket drawn at random.

House edge

The house edge of the majority of gaming and gambling companies (the house) is the percentage of each bet that a player makes that goes to the house; it is the built-in advantage that the house has and is one of the sources of its income. For example, in a casino winning bets are paid off at less than the true odds and the house edge is difference between those odds. Rogavi does not have a house edge as the chances of winning one of the prizes is exactly equal to the true odds. So if there are 100 tickets available each ticket has a 1 in 100 chance of winning.

Likelihood of winning

The likelihood for each ticket is one divided by the number of tickets available. For example, if there are 100 tickets available for a particular prize each ticket has a 1 in 100 or 0.01 chance of winning. If you purchase multiple tickets in a draw then your chances of winning increase. In the example above if you purchased 5 tickets you would have a 1 in 20 (5 in 100) or 0.05 chance of winning. If you purchase all the tickets available in a draw then you are guaranteed to win that prize.
