The Children's Society is a leading children's charity committed to making childhood better for all children in the UK. We take action to prevent, rescue and support children facing life trapped in a vicious circle of fear and harm; a vicious circle driven by violence, neglect, poverty and discrimination, which destroys childhood and wrecks community living. We give children the hope and confidence they need to face the future with optimism. We never turn away

Making Childhood Better

DRAW DONE!

The winner was Jane Henderson.

Home and Garden
£2.50

A quilt made in support of The Children’s Society 2009 Big Stitch Patchwork Competition. Both the Making Childhood Better campaign and The Children’s Society itself are driven by a belief that every child deserves a good childhood.

This quilt features motifs to illustrate aspects of childhood that I think are important for all children today.

Clockwise from top left
* Heart and Flower for love and friendship.
* House for a safe and happy home.
* Apple for healthy and nutritious diet.
* Book and pencils for a caring and nurturing education
* Tree for plenty of play outdoors
* Sun for happy holidays, everyone needs a break!

The quilt is made of soft flannel in muted colours, with a fleece backing for warmth and increased cuddle factor. It includes some second hand tablecloth fabric from a local charity shop, and the block layout is based on a design by Cynthia Tomaszewski. There is another quilt being raffled on Rogavi in support of this worthy cause.
