1st Prize - Trip for two to Tanzania to see Development in Action
Experience the culture and beauty of Tanzania, visit the projects to gain a better understanding of development as well as the chance to enjoy a couple of days Safari in a nearby game reserve and soaking up some sun on one of Africa’s most beautiful beaches.

V2V works on a number of different projects all based in and around the Village of Uchira, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, which can be seen from the balcony.  It is a beautiful place but the area is very poor.  The work V2V do is aimed at improving the livelihoods of those in the local area.  If you are lucky enough to win the first prize of a trip to Tanzania the following gives a rough itinerary of how your time will be spent:

Day 1: Meet V2V representative at Kilimanjaro airport for travel to Uchira which takes approximately 1 hour.  Receive orientation and familiarisation and a tour of the village and settle into our purpose built onsite accommodation.  Food will be included for the entire stay in Uchira.

Days 2-5: Village experience visiting projects, learning about the cultural history of the Chagga and Pare peoples as well as going on local excursions, including trips to Kirua Coffee farm, Miwaleni springs, Uchira’s hand-hewn quarries and tunnels, nearby waterfall.

Days 6-7: Spent on a local Safari with our partner’s Eco-Tours.  Enjoy the chance to see the local wildlife.

Days 8-9: Return to Uchira and spend some time helping out, dependent on your abilities and what most needs attention at the time of your stay this is likely to include supporting the construction and painting of village buildings, working on the sustainable agriculture project and supporting the English Club.

Days 10: Travel to Pangani to spend a few days relaxing on one of the most beautiful coastlines in Africa.

Days 11-12: Soaking up the sun on the beach.

Day 13: Travel to Dar-es-Salaam ready to travel home.

Day 14: Flights back to UK
